DRAWDOWN โ THE KEY DIFFERENCE
Both firms use trailing drawdown, but there's a critical difference in when it's measured.
Topstep โ Intraday Trailing
Topstep tracks your drawdown in real-time during the trading session. If your account reaches a new high intraday and then pulls back, your floor moves up immediately. This catches many traders who have a winning trade that reverses before they can exit.
Alpha Futures โ EOD Trailing
Alpha Futures calculates the trailing drawdown at End of Day (EOD) only. Intraday fluctuations don't move your floor. This is significantly more forgiving for active day traders and means your unrealized gains during the day don't count against you.
CONSISTENCY RULE โ ALPHA WINS CLEARLY
Topstep's 30% consistency rule means no single trading day can represent more than 30% of your total profits during the evaluation. This forces you to spread your profits across multiple days โ difficult if you catch a major move on NFP or CPI day.
Most Alpha Futures plans have no consistency rule at all. If you make all your profits on Tuesday and want to stop trading for the rest of the week โ that's perfectly fine. This is a major advantage for traders with a concentrated edge.
PLATFORMS โ ALPHA WINS AGAIN
Topstep supports NinjaTrader and Tradovate. Alpha Futures adds TradingView and Quantower to that list. If you use TradingView for analysis and want to trade directly from it, Alpha Futures is the only major futures prop firm that supports this.
